Sources

Clifford L. Stott, Ancestry of Anne Bincks of Scalford, Leicestershire, Wife of Nathaniel¹ Dickinson of Wethersfield and Hadley, and Mother of William¹ Gull of Hatfield, New England Historical and Genealogical Register 170 (2016): 133-44, is now the basic reference for this family. A record thought to pertain to Anna’s first marriage—John Gull to Annis Bench, at Aslackby, Lincolnshire, 10 May 1620—had circulated online as early as 2001: John Caskey, Ann, wife of Nathaniel Dickinson of Hadley, Mass, 10 December 2001, online, <http://www.genealogy.com/forum/surnames/topics/dickinson/1681/>. This proved to be an uncommon surname in the region, yet the parish register itself gave little reason to suspect its accuracy. The study of Anna’s family progressed only after it was noticed by Leslie Mahler that she was identified as a sister by two Bincks brothers who died testate in the Surrey suburbs of London. Between them, they used both of her married names and identified her as a resident of Billingborough. Stott’s article builds upon these and other discoveries.
