Sources

Alfred Le Roy Becker, The Life and Family of Simeon Le Roy, New York Genealogical and Biographical Record 64 (1933): 41-5, at 42, has limited information about the background of Claude d’Eschalets, an orphan girl who became one of the filles du roi: women sent to New France to form families and thereby increase the colonial population. Additional chronological information appears in René Jetté, Dictionnaire généalogique des familles du Québec, des origines à 1730 (Montréal: Les Presses de l’Université de Montréal, 1983), 1018, but it is not completely accurate. For a comprehensive genealogical study of the filles du roi, see Joy Reisinger and Elmer Courteau, The King’s Daughters, rev. ed. (Sparta, Wis.: Joy Reisinger, 1988), with Claude and her sisters at 138.
